Liposuction: A Highly Effective Body Contouring Procedure

It’s true – you can lose weight by eating right and hitting the gym. But more times than not, pockets of stubborn fat may still exist in your problem area(s) after these efforts. Liposuction is a highly effective body contouring procedure that can help you meet your aesthetic goals by treating leftover problem areas. Some of the most common regions that liposuction can improve include the arms, thighs, breasts, chin, cheeks, buttocks, and calves. Although it is not regarded as a substitute for traditional weight loss methods, liposuction can greatly improve one’s body after diet and exercise have failed to provide the results he or she initially desired.

Performed under local or general anesthesia, liposuction generally involves making a small incision in the treatment area, inserting a special tube (cannula) through the incision to loosen the excess fat, and then suctioning the dislodged fat with the use of a surgical vacuum or a syringe attached to the cannula.

The liposuction techniques I offer at my Scottsdale plastic surgery practice include: tumescent, super-wet, and ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL). The tumescent technique involves injecting large amounts of medicated fluids into the treatment areas to remove the fat. The super-wet technique involves injecting the same amount of fluids to the same amount of fat removed. This is different than the older dry technique, which didn’t involve injecting any fluids and posed the risk of losing a large amount of blood. The tumescent and super-wet techniques lessen blood loss and recovery time. The UAL method utilizes ultrasonic energy in a cannula that explodes the fat cells’ walls and liquefies the fat.

Depending on your individual needs and desires, I will determine which technique is right for you during a consultation. The best candidates for this procedure should be physically and mentally healthy, have firm, elastic skin, and have excess fat in specific areas that are suitable for liposuction.
