Brow Lift vs. Eyelid Lift
Posted May 19, 2015 in Brow Lift, Eyelid SurgeryComparing Brow Lift and Eyelid Lift
If you’re like most middle-aged individuals, you will eventually be plagued with wrinkles, loose skin, and sagging muscles around the upper portion of your face. With factors like sun exposure, gravity, and time itself taking their toll, your conditions will only worsen over time. To eliminate signs of aging around the eyes and on the forehead, cosmetic treatment is often desired. Procedures such as brow lift surgery and eyelid surgery can effectively restore a youthful look to the face.
What is the difference between a brow lift and an eyelid lift?
Potential patients often have trouble distinguishing between a brow lift and an eyelid lift. Although both procedures compliment each other and focus on improving the region surrounding the eyes, they are intended to do very different things.
A brow lift can improve the following:
- Lines on the forehead
- Furrows between the eyebrows
- Sagging eyebrows
- Eyebrows that hood the eyes
Often referred to as a forehead lift, this procedure diminishes wrinkles and sagging above the eyes by adjusting the underlying tissues of the forehead.
An eyelid lift can improve the following:
- Sagging skin in the upper and lower eyelids
- Puffiness in the upper eyelids
- Bags beneath the eyes
Also known as blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. It improves a fatigued appearance in the eyes by removing excess skin and redistributing displaced fat tissue.
Both procedures are usually performed under general anesthesia at our state-of-the-art facility to ensure the utmost safety and effectiveness. To make scarring as inconspicuous as possible, incisions are made in the hairline and creases of the eyelids. Recovery time is quick for both procedures with only one to two weeks of bruising and swelling. An added plus is that postoperative pain is minimal.
Although a personalized consultation with Dr. Spies will ultimately determine which procedure will provide you with the best results, it is common for a brow lift and eyelid lift to be performed in conjunction with one another.
